Dear Sponsors and Friends,
Thank you for you prayers over this last week as we battled against a very serious cholera outbreak in Kenya, leaving a mass amount of people sick and in need of medical treatment. When the outbreak was identified the children of Fishers of Men orphanage where treated by a doctor that was brought in, and then where all taken to the local hospital where they bypassed lines of 1000+ people to get a check up immediately. About 25 of the children of the orphanage where effected by the cholera but have been treated at the hospital and now are doing well. We are very thankful for favor from God with the local Kenyan government that allowed for speedy visits for our kids to ensure they would get adequate medicine and fight of the outbreak.
Many people from the local village area died during the outbreak, and Kelvin Nyongesa, one of the orphans in our orphanage unfortunately was one that came down with cholera, and his little body couldn’t pull him through. He passed away Tuesday night and our hearts are broken over the loss. We will miss him greatly and are so glad that he was in our lives.
Now that the outbreak is mostly behind us and all the kids are doing well, we do face the reality of some hefty expenses that we had to take on to fight it. More specifically we spent right at $2000.00 to fight this. That cost is comprised of bringing in a doctor, getting all the kids examined (including check up and meds) and the funeral expenses for young Kelvin. We’d ask that you please help us raise the money to pay for these expenses so that the ministry can keep going as there is no way to budget for this type of event. Thank you for your help, and know that even the Kenyan government has taken notice of your love. Fishers of Men has already surpassed many other organizations in their caring and support of children which couldn’t be done without you. I leave you with a reminder of Matthew 29:40 and the reality that these children are a blessing to us as they teach us to love our Lord Jesus better: And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'
